Dialogue Associate, Doiwala: Uttarakhand News: The mischief of elephants in the Nakraunda area is not taking the name of stopping. At the same time, a woman died in an elephant attack at Sukro Beat under Lansdowne Forest Division in Kotdwar. Two other women somehow managed to escape from the spot and save their lives. As soon as the information about the incident was received, the Forest Department team left for the spot.

By breaking the boundary, the elephant entered the courtyard of the house.

On Monday night too, the elephant entered the courtyard of farmer Lakhbir Singh’s house in Nakraunda after breaking the boundary. When the people of the house tried to drive the elephant away, the elephant rushed to attack them. Earlier on Sunday night too, the elephant had broken the boundary of their fields. Here elephants are continuously damaging the crops in the fields.

The patrolling of the forest department is also being exposed

Due to the continuous movement of elephants roaming openly on the road, the patrolling of the forest department is also being exposed. While the forest department is asleep, elephants are now attacking people besides causing damage to crops by entering populated areas. Due to this, there is a lot of resentment among the villagers. Farmer Lakhbir Singh has demanded the higher officials of the forest department get rid of the problem of elephants.

About 14 elephants are active in this area for a few days

Around 14 elephants are active in this area for the last few days. They are engaged in destroying the crops of the farmers here. The Bharatiya Kisan Union has also warned of agitation regarding this matter.

Farmer Lakhbir Singh told that last Sunday night the elephant broke his boundary wall and also damaged the crop. He told that elephants have ruined his wheat crop many times. Every year they have to bear the loss of lakhs of rupees.

He told that till now he has neither received compensation for the damage done in the past nor is the forest department serious about the matter. District President of Bharatiya Kisan Union Surendra Singh Khalsa said that if the Forest Department does not take concrete steps to stop elephants, the villagers will protest.

On the other hand, the Forest Officer of Lachhiwala Ghananand Uniyal said that patrolling has been increased to prevent elephants. Solar fencing will also be repaired soon. He told that some people in the village are damaging these wires. Due to this elephants are destroying the crop by entering the village.
