Electric Bus Services in Uttarakhand Expanded in Dehradun, Haridwar & Haldwani

Dehradun, July 30: Electric Bus Services in Uttarakhand are set to expand significantly as Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that electric buses will be introduced on more routes in Dehradun, Haridwar and Haldwani. The initiative aims to strengthen eco-friendly public transport, reduce air pollution and promote sustainable mobility across the state.

The announcement was made during a programme organised under the Uttarakhand Swachh Gatisheelta Parivartan Niti-2024, where the Chief Minister distributed capital grants and incentive subsidies to beneficiaries adopting clean fuel-based vehicles. He also flagged off 11 clean fuel-based vehicles, reinforcing the government’s commitment to greener transportation.

Electric Bus Services in Uttarakhand Receive Major Boost

The expansion of Electric Bus Services in Uttarakhand is expected to improve urban public transport while reducing dependence on conventional diesel buses. The state government is focusing on making public transportation cleaner, more efficient and environmentally sustainable.

Officials informed that the Transport Department has already completed the subsidy and approval process for five additional beneficiaries under the scheme, encouraging more citizens to adopt eco-friendly vehicles.

EV Charging Stations to Support Green Mobility

Along with expanding Electric Bus Services in Uttarakhand, the government is establishing electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the state. The charging infrastructure will make electric mobility more convenient for residents and encourage the adoption of electric vehicles.

The Chief Minister said that the government’s vision is to create a strong ecosystem where public transport and private electric vehicles can operate efficiently with adequate charging facilities.

Government Focuses on Sustainable Development

Addressing the gathering, Dhami emphasised that environmental protection and economic development must progress together. He said Uttarakhand’s forests, rivers and Himalayan ecosystem are invaluable natural assets that need to be preserved for future generations.

He highlighted national initiatives such as Net Zero Emissions by 2070, the Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE) Mission, the PM e-Bus Service, and the rapid expansion of renewable energy as examples of India’s commitment to combating climate change.

Uttarakhand Swachh Gatisheelta Parivartan Niti-2024

The Uttarakhand Swachh Gatisheelta Parivartan Niti-2024 has been designed to modernise public transport by encouraging the use of electric and CNG-powered vehicles while reducing dependence on ageing diesel vehicles.

The government is also accelerating work on ropeway projects and modern transport systems to improve connectivity, especially in hilly regions, while reducing traffic congestion and pollution.

Rooftop Solar Mission Progress

The Chief Minister informed that Uttarakhand has already achieved its initial target of 40,000 rooftop solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana ahead of schedule. Nearly 95 per cent of the state’s overall rooftop solar target has already been completed.

He congratulated the beneficiaries receiving subsidies and described them as pioneers in Uttarakhand’s green transportation movement.

Transport Minister Pradeep Batra and senior officials of the Transport Department were also present at the event.

Conclusion

The expansion of Electric Bus Services in Uttarakhand marks another important step towards cleaner and smarter urban transportation. With more electric buses, expanded EV charging infrastructure and continued investment in renewable energy, Uttarakhand is steadily moving towards becoming a model state for sustainable and environmentally responsible development.
