Road condition deteriorates from Srinagar to Badrinath

Amidst the possibility of record tourists coming for Chardham Darshan this time, the poor condition of the Yatra route and lack of parking can become a big hindrance in the smooth arrangements. DIG Karan Singh Naganyal recently inspected the stretch from Rishikesh to Badrinath Dham on the yatra route.

During this, a very difficult situation was found at many places. He has made a report in this regard and sent it to the Divisional Commissioner as well as other officers. In order to make the Chardham Yatra uninterrupted, new construction works on the Yatra route were banned in the beginning of April itself.

The construction agencies BRO, NHI and LND were instructed that wherever the roads were excavated or the hill was cut, the road should be made blacktop by the end of April so that, passenger vehicles can pass easily. Now only three days are left on 30th April and the route is in a bad condition at many places on the Yatra Marg.

Expressing concern over this, the DIG has sent a report to the officers. Marking many points, he has suggested to increase the number of workers there and get the work done faster. DIG Naganyal said that there is no parking available for vehicles going to Kedranath Dham.

He said that between Gaurikund to Sonprayag, a lane would be made on the side of the road and the vehicles of the passengers would be parked. Wherever their vehicles are parked, they will be freed by shuttle as far as the motorway beyond. For this mini buses are being arranged.

I inspected the Chardham Yatra route from Rishikesh to Badrinath. Allweather road works on this stretch of highway pose a major challenge at many places. It is very important to solve them before the journey, otherwise difficulties may arise. I have submitted its report to the Divisional Commissioner and other officers.

Improvement needed before travel
1. Dam site and road in Faras are bad at many places. Due to the cutting of the hill, the debris is falling continuously. After the rains, the challenge can increase here.
2. A bridge is coming up near Samrat restaurant in Sirobgad, Chamdhar. The road here is very narrow and in bad shape. The bridge will not be ready before the start of the journey. This point will also be a big challenge in Chardham Yatra.
3. A lot of cutting has been done for widening across the railway station in Chamoli. After cutting here, a lot of construction work is incomplete. It is bound to be a problem here when it rains. There is a single road near Nandprayag. His condition is also not good. In Helen also the road is very bad for a lot of part.
4. The road near Narsingh Temple in Joshimath is narrow with bad condition. People stay here during the journey. There is no space for even parking of vehicles.
5. Much work is left after digging the road in Marwari and Hanuman Chatti area.
