A total of 1405 accidents took place in the state last year. Of these, the maximum 1079 accidents were caused by rash driving, in which 582 died and 849 were injured. In 98 accidents, 53 died and 81 were injured due to driving in the wrong direction.

There are 46 deaths in five districts of the state. On these accident prone roads, Transport Minister Chandan Ramdas has instructed to take safety measures before the rainy season. He said that all the concrete measures for road safety should be taken while completing the tender process of all the black spots which are untouched.

According to the Transport Department, last year the maximum number of 369 accidents were caused by cars. This was followed by 305 accidents involving medium or heavy load vehicles. There were 241 accidents of two wheelers, 25 of three wheelers, 49 of taxi-maxi, 70 of minibus, bus, 82 of tractor trolley, 103 of unknown vehicle and 66 of light weight vehicle. 95 accidents of other vehicles were registered.

Road accidents are happening more in villages than in cities
.
