The Nainital High Court has ordered the Uttarakhand government to appoint a Lokayukta within three months. For this reason, the matter of appointment of Lokayukta is very hot. The Congress is trying to corner the government on this issue.

Under the policy of zero tolerance on corruption, the Dhami government may appoint a Lokayukta in the coming days. For this, the exercise has started at the government level. Firstly, a five-member selection committee will be formed under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister, which will form a search committee to find the Lokayukta.

A senior official of the Personnel and Vigilance Department has confirmed that the process of appointment of Lokayukta is in progress. A committee is being formed under the chairmanship of the CM for the selection of Lokayukta and members. The Speaker, Leader of the Opposition, Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court or a judge of the High Court on his nomination and an eminent jurist nominated by the Governor are to be made members of the committee.

Search committee will be formed

According to personnel department sources, four names of the selection committee have been finalized and the fifth name is expected to be available soon. The Selection Committee after the constitution will constitute a Search Committee to prepare a panel of names of persons.

The search committee should be formed within 45 days from the formation of the selection committee. The Search Committee will recommend three times the names and send them to the Selection Committee. It is believed that the Dhami government may appoint the Lokayukta in the next two-three months.
