According to the complaints received from the National Cyber ​​Crime Portal of the Home Ministry, in January-February this year alone, 1176 people lodged complaints of cyber fraud in the division. Of these, maximum number of complaints are 358 in Nainital, 353 in Udham Singh Nagar, 167 in Almora, 81 in Bageshwar, 140 in Pithoragarh and 77 in Champawat. Till now, only 316 complaints have been resolved by the police while two have been withdrawn.

Surprisingly, the police have registered FIR in only four cases while three cases are being re-investigated. According to experts, after investigation by the cyber cell, the complaints are being resolved and sent to the police stations, but due to other reasons including practical difficulties in hiding the crime at the police station level or in returning the money, instead of registering a case, the police are doing investigation by calling for investigation. Has been.

162 cases pending

According to the information received from the DIG office, from 2021 to 2024, 38 cases of cyber crime are under investigation in Nainital, 104 in Udham Singh Nagar, eight in Almora, zero in Bageshwar, 11 in Pithoragarh and six in Champawat, while a total of 712 cases are pending from 2021 to 2024. Are.

Only 8.14 percent recovery in Nainital

According to the government report, cyber thugs stole more than Rs 33 lakh 36 thousand in Nainital district, 92 lakh 58 thousand in Udham Singh Nagar, 2 lakh 19 thousand in Almora, 2 lakh 63 thousand in Bageshwar, more than one lakh in Pithoragarh and Champawat. Property worth more than Rs 19 lakh 41 thousand was looted. Only 8.14 percent property has been recovered in Nainital.

Similarly, 33.67 percent property has been recovered in Udham Singh Nagar, maximum 94.88 percent in Almora, least 2.42 percent in Bageshwar, 91 percent in Pithoragarh and 51.76 percent in Champawat.
