Uttarakhand Elections: BJP Candidate Admits Defeat?

Voting for all 70 assembly seats of Uttarakhand concluded yesterday. After voting, BJP MLA and candidate from Laksar, Sanjay Gupta has made serious allegations against Uttarakhand BJP President Madan Kaushik.

“Uttarakhand BJP President Madan Kaushik has worked against many BJP candidates to ensure the party’s defeat in this election. He supported the BSP candidate contesting against me. He is a traitor. I demand the BJP leadership to sack him from the party.”

More than 65 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the elections held on Monday for all 70 assembly seats in Uttarakhand. The fate of 632 candidates was sealed in EVMs. Sowjanya, Chief Electoral Officer, Uttarakhand said that polling was peaceful in all 11697 polling stations in the state and 65.1 percent voters exercised their franchise. Sowjanya said technical snags were reported in EVM machines and VVPATs at some places, but they were immediately replaced with reserve machines by the Sector Magistrate.

Voting began at 8 am in all the 13 districts and long queues were witnessed at polling stations till the polling time ended at 6 pm. Sowjanya told that the voters who reached the polling stations till 6 pm were polled. In the last assembly elections held in the year 2017, 65.56 per cent voter turnout was recorded while in the year 2012 67.22 per cent voters exercised their franchise. At many polling stations, even 100-year-olds came to cast their votes. Narayan Singh Kapkoti, 100, arrives to cast his vote at a polling booth in Kapkot assembly constituency of Bageshwar district. The district administration honored him by presenting him a shawl. At the same time, 100-year-old Vishweshwari Devi along with her grandchildren also reached a polling booth in Kotdwar assembly constituency with a stick and cast their vote.
