Gangotri Highway closed due to debris, vehicles stranded in Karnaprayag

Heavy rains in Uttarakhand have increased the difficulty. Red alert has been issued today by the Meteorological Department in some districts of the state. Gangotri National Highway is blocked due to debris, making movement difficult. The work of opening the route is going on by BRO. At the same time, the bypass road near Karnaprayag Panchpulia was closed due to stones coming from the hill. Due to this, the traffic has come to a complete standstill.

Gangotri National Highway is blocked due to the flow of Malwa and stones near Netala, Bishanpur near Maneri Falls. B R O work is going on to smooth the traffic. Due to rain in Dabarkot, debris and boulders are continuously falling. Machinery is deployed at the said place by NH Barkot. The work will be started once the rain and debris stop.

On the other hand, the bypass road near Karnaprayag Panchpulia was closed due to stones coming from the hill. Due to this, the traffic has come to a complete standstill. It has been raining continuously in Karnaprayag and surrounding areas since last Sunday night. Vehicles are stranded on both sides of the road. People are waiting for the road to open.

It has been raining continuously since midnight around Yamunotri Dham while the rainy season continues around the Barkot tehsil area. Due to rain in the Yamunotri region, the Yamunotri Highway is closed due to debris, boulders, and stones near Ojri Dabarkot.

Due to landslides etc., 44 roads were closed in the state on Sunday. According to PWD, 54 routes were already closed in the state. Out of these, success has been achieved in opening 61 routes. The closed route consists of one state road and three main district roads. There is more problem in rural areas, 33 routes are closed in rural areas of the state.

According to the State Emergency Operation Centre, the water level of Tehri Dam is at 782.44 meters. The maximum water level is 830 meters.  Meteorological Center has issued a red alert for Champawat, Nainital, and Udham Singh Nagar districts.

At the same time, yellow alerts of heavy rain have been issued in some parts of the Pauri, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, and Almora districts. Whereas, there are chances of several rounds of heavy rain in other districts including Doon. In such a situation, meteorologists have advised to be more cautious during day and night during heavy rains.
