Dhami government beats national average in employment
Dehradun, Uttarakhand:
The “Periodic Labour Force Survey” (PLFS) for the period between July 2023 and June 2024, released by the Labor Bureau on Monday (September 23, 2024), reports no major change in the unemployment rate, and a slight increase in the distribution of workers in agriculture and manufacturing sector with no increase in employment compared to previous years. Female workforce participation has also improved.
The Dhami government has reported a national average of 64.4 percent in employment and a national average of 64.3 percent. The average employment in the 15 to 29 age group in Uttarakhand is 49 percent. If we look at all age groups, its rate is 4.5 percent. Unemployment in the age group of 15 to 29 years in the state is 14.2 percent. In the state, there has been a better improvement in the employee ratio in all age groups in 2023-24 as compared to the year 2022-23, it has increased from 27.5% to 44.2%. That is, the youth get the maximum employment opportunities.
Chief Minister Laxman Dhami says that the state government has resolved that the youth of Uttarakhand will not only get employment, but they will also be made job providers.
In the year 2022-23 also, there has been an explosion in the participation of youth in the labor force. The labor force participation rate in the age group of 15-29 years has increased from 43.7 to 49 percent. Similarly, in the age group of 15-59, the density has jumped from 60.1 to 64.4 percent and in the category of above this, the density has reached 60.7 percent from 56.
It is the resolve of the state government to make Uttarakhand stand with the leading states of the country. More and more job opportunities are being created. More than 16 thousand youth have been given jobs in the government sector during this period. At the same time, this process has also started in the private sector. In the coming years, a large number of youth will get employment due to the reduction in most of the investment rules.
The LFPR for Muslim women increased from 15% in 2021-22 to 21.4% in 2023-24. In the case of Hindu women, participation in the workforce increased from 26.1% in 2021-22 to 33.3% this year. Similarly, the LFPR among Sikh and Christian women increased from 19.8% to 26.7% and 34.2% to 38.3%, respectively, during the same period.
