Badrinath Highway Clears, 2000 Stranded Passengers Resume Journey

Chardham Yatra 2024 Update After continuous rains in Uttarakhand, more than 2000 pilgrims and common people stranded in Kameda and Nandprayag on Badrinath Highway have gotten relief. The administration has smoothened the route and the passengers have left for their destination. Because of security, a holiday has been declared in all schools and Anganwadi centers today.

Continuous rain is continuing in Chamoli district for the last 24 hours. The district administration works day and night to smooth the motor roads blocked due to rain. Due to continuous landslides and falling of stones from the hill at Kameda and Nandprayag on Badrinath National Highway, there has been a disruption in the smoothening of the road. However, movement through the bypass in Nandprayag is smooth. The road in Kameda has been smooth. More than two thousand pilgrims and common people were waiting for the highway to open. After the road was opened, they left for their destination.

District Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari said that the district administration made arrangements for night rest and food for 130 pilgrims stranded there due to blockage of Badrinath National Highway in Kameda last afternoon.

On the Joshimath-Malari motor road, near Lata, 40 people were stranded at night when the road was closed in both ways. They have been safely rescued with the help of SDRF and the motor road has been opened for small vehicles.

Due to rain, 46 rural motor routes are blocked in the district. Electricity supply has been disrupted in Tharali, Karnaprayag, and Gairsain, UPCL is working to restore it. Keeping safety in mind, a holiday has been declared in all schools and Anganwadi centers today.

All the officials have been advised to remain alert and the local people have been advised to stay away from rivers and streams and postpone travel once the road is smooth so that no untoward incident takes place. The District Magistrate said that necessary steps are being taken for safety as a precaution at every level.
