By Pramod Madhav: Amma Makkal Munnettra Kazhagam (AMMK) leader TTV Dhinakaran on Thursday said that the decision to recall a candidate was taken after the Election Commission didn’t provide the “cooker” symbol.

The decision was not taken due to anyone forcing him to do so, he said.

Dhinakaran claimed that the AIADMK is operating without a leader and that the party’s mighty “twin leaves” symbol is only in the possession of the Presidency Chairman.

Slamming Edappadi K Palaniswami, Dhinakaran said that the AIADMK party symbol is losing influence under him.

“As long as the symbol was with Thalaivar and Amma, the symbol had influence. Since they were in power, they utilised the symbol. But the 11th July General Council had exposed them to the public, reducing the influence of ‘twin leaves’. No matter how much they try or even use the funds which they accumulated over four years, they might get an extra 5,000 to 10,000 votes, but they can’t win, which everyone knows,” said the AMMK leader.

“Until EPS is involved, the symbol will keep losing its influence across Tamil Nadu as EPS has reduced it to a regional party,” he said, adding that his party members would not vote for the DMK or “traitors” in the Erode by-polls.
