By India Today News Desk: Congress leader Jairam Ramesh slammed Union law minister Kiren Rijiju on Saturday for the latter’s remark that a few retired judges are “part of the anti-India gang” which is trying to make the judiciary play the role of the Opposition. Jairam Ramesh said the law minister was “talking like an outlaw”.
“A Minister of Justice propagating Injustice. If this is not a threat to freedom AFTER speech what is?” he said in a tweet.

This comes after Kiren Rijiju, while speaking at the India Today Conclave, said the discussion at a recent seminar on ‘accountability in judges’ appointment’ turned into how the government is affecting the judiciary.
“There are a few judges who are activists and are part of an anti-India gang which is trying to turn the judiciary against the government like the opposition parties,” said Rijiju.
The law minister said judges are not part of any political affiliation. “How can these people say that executive needs to be reigned in? How can they say this? No one will escape and those who turn against the nation will have to pay,” he said.
