Sources stated on Sunday that the planned gathering of opposition parties in Patna on June 12 has been postponed, news agency PTI reported.

Considering the unavailability of key opposition members such as Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, it is being suggested to postpone the meeting to a later date to ensure their participation and give the event the appropriate spotlight.

According to sources, Mallikarjun Kharge, the President of the Congress, and MK Stalin, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK leader, were facing obstacles in attending the June 12 meeting owing to pre-existing obligations.

Rahul Gandhi is currently in the US on a trip that spans six days and he is anticipated to travel back on June 15. Due to health concerns, Sonia Gandhi is currently overseas and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is accompanying her.

Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister of Bihar and a leader of the JD(U), has proactively engaged in conversations with various regional leaders, including the Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, and the Left, with the intention of forming a united front among opposition parties to challenge the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

He has conducted individual gatherings with various party leaders such as Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge from the Congress, Arvind Kejriwal who is the Delhi Chief Minister and AAP’s national convener, Mamata Banerjee who is the West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo, and Sharad Pawar from the NCP.

The recent ordinance passed by the Centre which aims to bring Delhi’s bureaucrats under its control, coupled with Arvind Kejriwal’s efforts to seek opposition support in blocking the bill in parliament, has provided impetus for a coalition of opposition parties to unite.

The majority of the opposing political groups have shown support towards Kejriwal. They have accused the Centre of disregarding federal principles and urged the Congress to support their cause.
