Goddess of Justice’s eyesight restored

The new statue of the legal “Statue of Justice” does not have a blindfold on its eyes and instead of a sword, it is holding the Constitution of India in its hand. The concept of the Goddess of Justice came from the Roman civilization. The name of this goddess is ‘Justicia’ and the word Justice also comes from this. This form of the Lady of Justice came to India during the British colonial period. Through the new statue of the ‘Goddess of Justice’, an attempt has been made to give the message to the common people that the law is not blind. Also, keeping the Constitution in place of the sword shows that legal action will be taken against every accused.

On the orders of Supreme Court Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, important changes have been made to the statue of the ‘Goddess of Justice’ seen in the courts. The statue’s eyes were blindfolded earlier, but now they have been opened. The sculptor who made the new statue is Vinod Goswami.

This statue is six and a half feet tall. The statue weighs 125 kg. Instead of a gown, the statue is dressed in a sari. The statue is made of fiberglass. The statue has a scale in one hand and the Constitution in the other. Also, instead of a gown, the sari, the identity of an Indian woman, is kept.

Also, earlier the statue of the Goddess of Justice used to have a sword in its left hand. Now the Constitution has been placed in place of the sword, which is an attempt to give the message that legal action will be taken against every accused. The statue of the Goddess of Justice in the court has been in use since the British era, but now by changing it, a commendable initiative has been taken to change the image of the judiciary according to the times

In the last few days of his tenure, the Chief Justice is engaged in an initiative to change the tradition of the judicial process that has been going on since the British era and to add the color of Indianness to it. Keeping this in mind, this step has been taken. Through these changes made in the Statue of Justice, he wants to implement the right to equality contained in the constitution at the ground level.

I believe that the new statue is connected to the heritage, constitution, and symbol of our country. Through the new statue, an attempt has been made to give the message to the common people that the law is not blind. Usually, earlier people used to refer to this statue and say that the law is blind, but now the message of this bandage on the new statue is that during the judicial process, the court does not give the verdict by looking at the face, but there is equal justice for every person.

I understand that undoubtedly everyone will agree on the fact that justice should be impartial and it should not be based on the face value of any person or any other external influences whatsoever.
