Devprayag, Rishikesh, and Haridwar will be submerged in flood due to Tehri Dam?
Tehri Dam Project News: 2400 MW of electricity is being produced daily from this dam and is being supplied to the Northern Grid. The permitted water level of Tehri Lake by the Government of Uttarakhand is 830 RL meters.
Uttarakhand News: LP Joshi, Executive Director of Tehri Dam Project, has clarified on the possibility of flood from Tehri Dam. He has assured the people of the plains that there is no need to panic about Tehri Dam. Flood water is not allowed to enter the plains to protect lives and property. He dismissed the threat from Tehri Dam to Devprayag, Rishikesh, and Haridwar. The flood water from the upper area is held back in the Tehri Dam. He told that nowadays the level of Tehri Lake is 811 RL meters.
Is Tehri Dam a threat to the people in the plains?
All four turbines are being run from the lake of Tehri Dam. The production of 2400 MW of electricity from the dam is being supplied daily to the Northern Grid. The permitted water level of Tehri Lake by the Government of Uttarakhand is 830 RL meters. This time the level of Tehri Lake will be filled up to 830 RL meters. Tehri Dam is completely safe according to disaster, earthquake, design, and flood capacity. There is no room for any doubt. People should not doubt the security of Tehri Dam.
Tehri Dam is covered by international standards of safety and security. Executive Director Joshi told that before the construction of the security of Tehri Dam, standards have been adopted after conducting research by a joint team of Moscow’s international organization HPI and IIT Roorkee. Tehri Dam is a rock-fill dam with a fully adjustable capacity. Tehri Dam has the capacity to withstand an earthquake of 8 reactors, while so far only 7 reactors have experienced an earthquake in the world.
Cleanliness of the executive director of Tehri Dam project
Experts have told the Tehri dam is completely safe in the research. The reserve weir of Tehri dam is so huge that it has withstood the capacity of 7500 cumecs of water in the flood of 1999, while this dam has the capacity to withstand 15 thousand cumecs of water. More than 350 state-of-the-art equipment are used for the safety and security of the dam. The reports so far fit perfectly. That’s why it is not right to link any kind of imaginary doubt with the safety and security of Tehri Dam.
THDC claims that Tehri Dam is completely safe and fit and provides protection to the plains in case of disaster. LP Joshi told that all the information being spread related to the safety of Tehri Dam is misleading. In the year 1990, a senior geologist and seismologist of the Geological Survey of India also found in the survey of Tehri Dam that the reactor scale has the capacity to withstand an earthquake of magnitude 8. He told that there is no danger of any kind to the people living in the plains from the dam.
