Dehradun DM Uncovers Liquor Shop Overpricing
In Dehradun, Uttarakhand, DM was sold expensive liquor by a model shop owner. On this, DM Sahab got furious and fined the shopkeeper. Here, when he bought a bottle of McDowell, the salesman charged 20 rupees more from the DM. When the shopkeeper handed over a bottle worth 660 rupees for 680 rupees, the DM came into action.
This video of DM has become increasingly viral on social media. In this video, DM Savin Bansal can be seen standing in line at the liquor shop and buying liquor.
He purchased whisky worth 680 rupees from the English liquor shop. The matter is not that the DM himself bought the liquor… the incident happened after this which shook the entire liquor mafia system of the district.
If you are a connoisseur of alcohol, then this news will give you relief because whenever a customer reaches the liquor shop, the salesman standing there definitely charges an extra 10 or 20 rupees over the price of whiskey or beer. Most people ignore it and pay an extra 10-20 rupees over the price. If someone objects, then in most cases the salesman starts misbehaving with the customer. Such a situation is seen in almost all the shops.
When this complaint was made to Dehradun DM Savin Bansal, he took it seriously. He reached the liquor shop to investigate the complaint. He stood in the line and bought liquor himself. The salesman charged more money from him as well. It is being claimed in media reports that DM Savin bought whiskey worth Rs 660 for Rs 680. When he objected to the extra money being charged, the salesman misbehaved with the DM as well.
After which DM Savin’s identity was revealed. DM Savin called the concerned excise officer from the spot and ordered an investigation. DM Savin checked the shop’s register and asked the excise officer to take action. The excise officer who arrived at the spot not only scolded the salesman present at the shop but also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the shop owner.
To ensure strict compliance with the rules in the city, raids were conducted simultaneously on several liquor shops in Dehradun on 18 September 2024. Over-rating and irregularities were found at various places including Old Mussoorie Road Rajpur Market, against which immediate action is being taken.
After this surprise action of the DM, there was a stir at the liquor shops of Dehradun. After this, the Excise Department raided many liquor shops in Dehradun. The shocking thing is that in this raid, many irregularities were found along with complaints of charging more money than the price at most of the contracts.
