Crows become cleaners in Sweden
In Sweden, crows are cleaning up the mess spread by humans. As a pilot project, crows have been appointed as scavengers, who pick up pieces of cigarettes lying on the streets and throw them in dustbins. For this they are also rewarded.
Stockholm: Humans are at the forefront of spreading dirt. The biggest example of this is the garbage scattered on the roads. From chips packets to water bottles and cigarette butts are easily seen on the streets. This is when governments spend huge amounts every year to educate and make people aware. Sweden has come up with a unique way to deal with this problem.
Get rewarded for cleaning
However, the Swedish government is not going to be strict on its people, but a company there has made such appointments as sweepers, who can be expected to work with complete honesty. According to the news published in our affiliate website WION, Sweden has recruited crows to pick up cigarette pieces from streets and squares. These crows clean up the mess spread by humans and in return they get some food.
Crows training company
Startup company Corvid Cleaning is training crows for this work. They are being taught to put cigarette pieces in the dustbin specially placed on the roadside. The crows who complete the task correctly are given peanuts to eat as a reward. However, if the crows put something else in the dustbin instead of the cigarette, they are not rewarded.
Specially designed dustbins
It has been told on the website of Corvid Cleaning that the dustbin has been specially designed. As soon as the crows put the pieces of cigarette, peanuts come out for them. But if they put something like stones or leaves in the dustbin, they do not get any reward. Human participation in this whole process is only to remove the garbage from the dustbin. The company says that the cost of cleaning can be significantly reduced by this project. Corvid Cleaning is currently working on a pilot project. If it is successful then it can also be used on a large scale.
