By Ravish Pal Singh: On Labour Day, former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath said if the Congress was voted back to power in the state, it would formulate stringent laws to ensure the safety of journalists. Addressing a meeting in Piplani at the Govindpura assembly seat, he said that his party-led government would ensure May 1 was declared a holiday in Madhya Pradesh.
He said, “Journalists will also be respected. How free are your pen and camera today? When the Congress government comes to power, a strict law will be made for the safety of journalists.”
Addressing labourers and Congress workers, Kamal Nath said, “Earlier, thousands of labourers used to pass through BHEL, now only a few thousand labourers are left. Pandit Nehru and Shankaldayal Sharma established BHEL and Indira Gandhi made laws for the workers. But how many laws are followed today?”
Kamal Nath further said, “Today, on Labour Day, I announce that if the Congress government comes (to power), we will declare May 1 as a government holiday in honour of the workers.”
