Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge postpones meeting with party leaders in Rajasthan: Sources

By Rahul Gautam: A meeting scheduled on Friday between Rajasthan Congress leaders and the party president Mallikarjun Kharge has been deferred, sources told India Today.

The meeting was postponed owing to the busy schedule of the party president, as Kharge is said to be busy with the Karnataka Cabinet discussions. A meeting with Madhya Pradesh leaders has also been deferred.

Keeping in mind the Assembly polls slated in a few months from now in Rajasthan, which remains a divided house for Congress, the meeting was seen as an attempt by the high command to once again bring a truce between Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot factions.

Both Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot were expected to attend the meeting meant to take stock and analyse the party’s strategy in the run-up to the polls.

In the aftermath of Pilot’s open ultimatum to the Gehlot-led state government earlier this month, party insiders believe that the tussle had been harming the party’s interests on the ground in the poll-bound desert state and the sooner it is resolved the better it will be for the party’s interests.

Holding the stage to attention on May 15, Sachin Pilot openly demanded the Rajasthan government to fulfil three demands, failing which, he said that Gehlot dispensation would face agitation in the state.

“So far, I have been peaceful in putting forth my demands by doing symbolic fasts and taking out jan sangharsh padyatra but if, by the end of this month, the Gehlot government does not fulfil three demands that I have put forth, including providing compensation to all the students affected due to paper leak, disbanding RPSC and its reorganization and formation of a high-level committee to investigate cases of corruption that surfaced during Vasundhara Raje regime, there will be agitation in the state,” Pilot had said.
