By Rajesh Saha: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Arjun Singh on Friday slammed CM Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government over the condition of law and order in the state. He expressed concern over the alleged “inactive” role of the Bengal police in protecting citizens.
The local MP said he is upset with how police handled a shoot-out incident in Barrackpore City in the North 24 Pargana district, where two people were injured and the son of a jeweller lost his life.
Arjun Singh said, “Take away my security but keep the people protected. I am ashamed as a local MP.” Singh had visited the victim’s family earlier.

“I am a people’s representative. I have won by the people’s vote and have a responsibility towards them. If I go around with security now, people will see me and taunt me. I want security for those who made me win by their votes,” he further added.
He said, “This incident happened at a stone’s throwing distance from the police commissioner’s office. Early surveillance, warning, information sharing has all been stopped to prevent any eventuality.”
The local MP from Barrackpore won the last Lok Sabha election on a BJP ticket but later re-joined TMC later.
