By Kumar Abhishek: Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party (SBSP) chief and Uttar Pradesh MLA, Om Prakash Rajbhar said that he supports the Centre’s bid to roll out a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the country, adding that “there should be one law for all”.
Rajbhar said that his party, an ally of the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party, would support “whatever is in the interest of the country.”
Interestingly, the Samajwadi Party has not shown any support for a Uniform Civil Code. The party’s national general secretary Shivpal Singh Yadavon on Friday accused the BJP of indulging in propaganda over UCC to sweep votes for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
The Centre could table a bill implementing a Uniform Civil Code in the monsoon session of Parliament. The bill may be sent to the parliamentary standing committee which will hear views of various stakeholders on the Uniform Civil Code.

While some opposition parties such as the DMK, JD(U), National Conference, and Congress raised objections against bringing a Uniform Civil Code, other parties such as Shiv Sena (UBT) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said they supported the Centre’s move.
UCC refers to a common set of laws that are applicable to all the citizens of India that is not based on religion and dealing with marriage, divorce, inheritance and adoption, among other personal matters.
