By Suryagni Roy: Trinamool Congress (TMC) general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, took a potshot at the Congress on the issue of the Centre’s non-payment of dues to West Bengal, while addressing a rally at Murshidabad on Saturday. The Murshidabad district has been a stronghold of the Congress in Bengal, where the party recently won the by-poll legislative elections.
“Congress never wrote a letter to the Centre when the 100 days funds were not sent,” said Abhishek Banerjee in the rally.
Launching a scathing attack at local MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the TMC leader further said, “Murshidabad has given so much to Congress. But, neither Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury nor any Congress leader wrote a letter or spoke to Delhi about it.”
He further said that the Congress leaders in West Bengal only attacked and charged the TMC and never blaze their guns at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

“Adhir never attacks Modi or Shah in his press conferences. The same goes for Md Salim and Biman Bose. The BJP too in their press conferences, never say a word against the Congress or the CPM. All of them only attack the TMC,” said Abhishek Banerjee.
He further questioned the silence of the Congress over the death of a person who was hit by one of the cars in Suvendu Adhikari’s convoy.
Banerjee stated that Suvendu Adhikari’s convoy hit an individual and the car fled the scene, later the man died. He stated that the Congress and CPM were silent on the matter.
“If anyone can show me that Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury wrote one letter regarding Bengal’s dues to the Centre in the past five months, I will stop my rally,” said Banerjee in Murshidabad.
Abhishek Banerjee’s statements against the Congress come a day after West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee called for opposition unity ahead of the 2024 elections.
One day prior to this, Mamata Banerjee said that parties should apply the concept of “one is to one fight” against the ruling BJP. She was speaking at a public meeting after reviewing the areas affected by the erosion of the river Ganga in Murshidabad.

“All Opposition parties must unite. Let’s do a ‘one is to one fight’ against the BJP. Whoever is strong in an area, should fight from there,” said the West Bengal chief minister.
However, she specifically didn’t take names of any political party when she called for opposition unity.
