Gary O’Donovan, researching exercise at Loughborough University’s Medicine Program in England, and his colleagues analyzed data from health surveys of more than 63,000 people in England and Scotland. People who said they exercised only one or two days a week reduced their risk of dying early from any cause by 30% to 34% compared to inactive people. At the same time, this risk is reduced by 35% in people who exercise daily. According to this, there is not much difference between those who exercise daily from those who exercise less.
Reduced risk of heart disease and cancer
The results of this research show that physical activity may be less, but it is beneficial for the body. Researchers found that those who exercised for 150 minutes a week had almost the same benefits as those who exercised daily. Both people who exercised regularly and those who exercised a couple of days a week reduced their risk of death from heart disease by about 40%. The same was true for the risk of death from cancer. People who exercised – whether it was every day or just a few days – reduced their risk of dying from cancer by 18% to 21% compared to those who did not exercise.
