The king of rock n roll, Bappi Lahiri passed away
Bappi Lahiri, the famous musician and singer who made the entire country dance to his tunes by introducing Bollywood to rock and disco, is no more.
From the age of 17, Bappi wanted to become a musician and SD Burman became his inspiration. Bappi used to listen to SD Burman’s songs in his teenage years and used to do them Riyaz. Bappi Lahiri whose real name is Alokesh Lahiri was born on 27 November 1952 in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal. Bappi Lahiri started playing the tabla at the age of three. In the era when people used to listen to romantic music, at that time Bappi introduced ‘Disco Dance’ in Bollywood. He got his first exposure in a Bengali film, Dadu (1972) and his first Hindi film, Nanha Shikari (1973), for which he composed, The film that established him in Bollywood was Tahir Hussain’s Hindi film Zakhmi (1975), for which he composed the music and doubled as a playback singer.
