Mumbai airport saw 44 million passenger traffic movement in 2022-23

Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has recorded strong passenger traffic of around 44 million in the financial year 2022-23. It also recorded year over year (y-o-y) growth of 105 per cent in passenger movement as compared to FY 2022 and a 56 per cent y-o-y growth in overall ATMs (Air Traffic Movements).
The CSMIA witnessed recovery of over 90 per cent pre-Covid numbers. Domestic traffic registered a strong recovery of 96 per cent, as per the official statement, which further said seven new overseas passenger carriers and one new domestic passenger carrier were recorded this year.
The CSMIA witnessed 56 per cent share of non-Metro traffic during the year 2023 till now, compared to 50 per cent in the same period during the pre-Covid times, reflecting stronger domestic connectivity.
With regards to international passenger traffic, the CSMIA witnessed over 11.2 million passengers, registering a 291 per cent growth as compared to FY 2022. The airport saw over 32.7 million domestic passengers in FY 2023, witnessing a y-o-y growth of 87 per cent in comparison to FY 2022. In terms of flight movements, the CSMIA witnessed an overall growth of 56 per cent in FY 2023.
The airport saw over 63,000 movements to international destinations, which is 181 per cent higher compared to 2022. Similarly, the CSMIA witnessed 51 per cent growth in domestic flight movements year on year with 2,19,200 movements in 2023.
Dubai, Abu Dubai and London remain the top international destinations with highest passenger traffic. Delhi, Bengaluru, and Goa continue to retain their position as the top three preferred domestic destinations. On February 11, the highest single day flight movement post Covid was recorded.
The CSMIA handled a record 1,50,988 passenger movements in a single day on December 10, 2022 – the highest since the global pandemic. This was also the overall third-highest single-day passenger movement recorded by the CSMIA.
