Electricity price increase in Uttarakhand
The Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission (UERC) has revised the proposal of the Energy Corporation to increase the surcharge to 12.5%. Now an increase of three and a half percent has been approved in this. This will directly affect the pockets of the consumers. Electricity has become expensive from five paise to 86 paise per kilowatt. The Energy Corporation has also given the reasoning behind this. Expensive purchases from the national exchange have been cited during the summer power crisis in Uttarakhand. Energy Corporation had demanded to increase the electricity surcharge in this financial year. Although, The Commission has not given the desired relief to the Corporation. Now, due to the sudden increase in electricity demand in the summer season and the coal-gas crisis in the country, there is a continuous shortage of electricity in Uttarakhand. In such a situation, since March, the Energy Corporation has been buying power from the National Exchange at expensive rates. Due to the power crisis, the rates reached one and a half to two times higher in the national market. Now electricity rates have been increased in Uttarakhand.
