Are snake cucumbers beneficial for your skin during summer?

In addition to drinking ample water, there are alternative ways to keep your skin hydrated, such as consuming water-rich cucumbers and kakadee, also known as snake cucumber. As the name suggests, snake cucumbers might look weirdly contorted like a snake’s body but this creeping plant of the gourd family has an “insane amount of health benefits,” according to Dr Rinky Kapoor, Consultant Cosmetic Dermatologist and Dermato-Surgeon at The Esthetic Clinics.
Also known as Chinese Slangen, snake cucumbers are a Dutch cultivar of an old cucumber variety with aromatic compounds. Just like the regular cucumber, snake cucumbers can be made a part of your skincare routine to amplify hydration, getting you a step closer to achieving glass skin.
According to Dr Kapoor, snake cucumbers can help manage mild sunburn. “It is loaded with antioxidants and can assist protect the skin from the harmful UV rays of the sun,” she said. For managing mild sunburn, cucumber juice can be applied to the face by grinding it in a mixer or crushing it with your fingers.
Kapoor added that snake cucumbers are also a great option when it comes to toning the skin as “it can help to shrink the pores.” For this, you will need to extract the juice of the cucumber, which can then simply be applied to the skin using a cotton swab. You can leave it on for 15-20 minutes till it dries off and then you can wash it off.
Due to their soothing effect, snake cucumbers can also help manage dryness and irritation during summer. You can make it a habit to keep slices of snake cucumbers on your skin, at least once a day, to fight against the constant dryness that accompanies this pre-monsoon season.
According to the dermatologist, you can also apply crushed cucumber juice together with curd by forming a paste that will provide nourishment to the skin. “It helps brighten the skin and make it look fresh,” she said.
