By Siraj Qureshi: Agra MLA and Uttar Pradesh Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay named a zonal park as ‘Geeta Govind Vatika’ which was developed by the Agra Development Authority in an area of about 17 acres.
There are about a dozen of small and big government parks in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra which are known by different names, and their maintenance is under the Agra Municipal Corporation.
Yogendra Upadhyay said, “Efforts will be made that tourists coming to Agra to visit Taj Mahal should also visit ‘Geeta Govind Vatika’, for which many attractions will be developed here.”
“Recently, Agra’s first ‘chowpatty’ has started here, and soon boating facilities will also be available in the adjoining lake,” he added.
Minister Yogendra Upadhyay further claimed that the zonal park now ought to be known as ‘Geeta Govind Vatika.’ He said to have made this suggestion in a meeting with Agra’s administrative officials.

He further added that in order to make the place a popular tourist destination, plants like tulsi, kadamba, etc. should be planted in accordance with the Braj culture of the ancient Krishna era.
Secretary of the Agra Tourist Welfare Chamber Vishal Sharma stated, “If the goal was to draw tourists, the Shahjahan Garden adjacent to the Taj Mahal could have been improved.”
Vishal Sharma claimed, “Shah Jahan Garden is more accessible to tourists than the zonal park, which the minister has named ‘Geeta Govind Vatika.’ It is located far from the Taj Mahal and the main road.”
In official documents, Shahjahan Garden is also referred to as Motilal Nehru Garden, but in everyday speech, it is still referred to as Shahjahan Garden.
“The administration ought to take into account developing this garden as a nighttime attraction after the Taj Mahal is closed to visitors,” claimed Secretary Vishal Sharma.
